A Legacy of Rentals

Matt Schwerin The best audiobook of musically-accompanied short-fiction that came out last year. But seriously, I love this. I love the story telling, Craig's vocal deliveries, and the accompanying music. Mostly in the character-driven narrative format, it reminds me of The Mountain Goats circa All Hail West Texas and other albums like that. I had that thought and then listening to this lead me to revisit the Hold Steady "Boys and Girls in America" and lo, there is a lyric reference to the Mountain Goats-cool Favorite track: Never Any Horses.

pvs_ This is so good. Thank you for making a wonderful album. Really enjoy hearing Cassandra Jenkins on it as well.
Top of the top. Favorite track: Due To Depart.

pnwkiwi There are a few folks that perfectly capture the modern American condition (Drive-by Truckers, and Jason Isbell I’m looking at you …) but for my money Craig Finn does it best.

about

I'm excited and proud to announce that my 5th solo record A Legacy Of Rentals will be released on May 20, 2022 via Positive Jams/Thirty Tigers.

A Legacy of Rentals was largely written during 2020, in the shadow of the pandemic and the George Floyd murder that occurred in my hometown of Minneapolis. It was recorded in 2021 with producer Josh Kaufman, engineer D. James Goodwin, and a number of other friends and collaborators.

These songs deal a lot with memory: how we remember people that are gone, places that have changed, major events that are part of our past. It's about how memories become the stories that we tell others and ourselves. It’s about the distortion that happens to our own histories when stretched by time and distance. It’s about finding joy in the mundane and engaging in hope in our everyday.

You can watch a video trailer for the record here: youtu.be/3YqMngcaZSg

I really appreciate you being a part of this. This record is very special to me, and I think a bit different than anything I’ve done before. I’m honored to be here to share A Legacy Of Rentals with you. This is what it looks like.
